Welcome to the podcast, My Good Pen. I’m your host, Ella Grace Schumacher.
To be an actor, you have to make connections, and the strongest connections come from the stories we share.
During my college auditions for a B.F.A. in acting, I found excitement just by talking, listening, and connecting with the other actors. As I filled out the pages of my theatre notebook during Q&As, I began to develop a deeper understanding of what I was learning. I kept coming back to something Rami Malek once said: “Every guy should own a really nice pen… whenever you’re going to share something with someone, it means something if it bleeds out in a nice ink.”
There’s something powerful about writing things down. Putting pen to paper allows you to connect not just with what someone else says, but how it resonates with you. Over time, those notes become more than just pages; they become a collection of lessons and memories that can shape how you think. That’s what makes learning from others so powerful.
So grab your notebook and your good pen.
