Elliet Tomlinson, Writer
I am Elliet Tomlinson, an 11th grade student here in Minnetonka. Since I’m relatively new to this district I joined VANTAGE hoping to carve out a space for myself in the tonka community, and meet peers with similar interests and goals. Since this class has started, it’s created many opportunities for me to explore what my options for a career after highschool could be.
Because of my interest in journalism, it’s been a priority of mine to consider both perspectives of a narrative with compassion. Journalism is about retelling somebody else’s story, so it’s crucial to keep in mind that there are real people behind the words you piece together. Since they hold so much power to either inspire or inflict pain onto others, it takes integrity and empathy to be able to report respectfully. Words are such powerful tools to utilize, which has made me excited to learn more about their impact through this course.
